Harbinger 28800 Leather Weight Dip Belt Review
Harbinger usually puts out quality fitness equipment; however, the 28800 leather weight dip belt doesn’t live up to the company’s level of quality shown in other products. Seemingly this belt would be a good piece of equipment. After all, it’s made of leather and chain so what could go wrong? Well, Harbinger made some mistakes with a very important part of the belt that ties everything together – the rivets. There have been many reviews complaining about how the rivets come out at the ring attachments or on the actual belt itself. The design of the belt is such that there are three pieces of leather attached together with rivet which makes the belt more likely to break – especially with cheap rivets. Most leather dip belts have a single piece of leather going from one end to the other with a back piece attached to give more support and comfort. I don’t know why Harbinger felt the need to stray away from this design. The point is that a major flaw like faulty rivets is a huge red flag for a dip belt. The last thing you need is to get injured by an iron plate falling on your toe because of rivets popping out when you have weights loaded on the belt.
When this belt is manufactured correctly, it’s a good belt. The leather used is good quality and the chain is long enough to fit multiple plates with ease. The clasp to join the chain to the belt could be more sturdy and easier to attach but that’s not a big problem.
Bottom line is that this belt has a lot of potential with the leather components and long chain but the complaints about the easily breakable rivets mean you should probably avoid this belt. You may get a properly manufactured belt or you could get a dud. I for one would not take that gamble when you can get a better belt for a similar price. The better options are APT and Shihan.
